Our Story
Welcome to Shamrock Bar & Pizza. We are one of Superior’s oldest eating establishments. The building itself was built in the mid-1890’s and housed a variety of businesses before turning into The Shamrock as we know it today.
Our history started when Louie and Helen Peters bought the building after the repeal of prohibition in the 1930’s and they turned it into a bar. Their daughter Eunice later joined them along with her husband Myron, better known as Mike Kennelly.
Pizza wasn’t a common food in those days. In fact, the first pizza was served as a bar snack on New Year’s Eve of 1953. Mike made the first pizzas at home from a family recipe and carried them over to the bar. Fortunately he lived nearby in South Superior.

Mike’s home-made creations were an instant success! It didn’t take long before people were calling and ordering them in advance. The rest, as they say, is history!
The business expanded and an addition was completed in 1969. Mike and his family continued as owners until his retirement in 1978. At that time, The Shamrock was bought by three teachers – Jack Milroy, Paul Branstetter and Ken Thomson.
Jerry Joos was hired on May 7, 1979 and began his climb up the corporate ladder, eventually taking over the reins as General Manager and as a good friend to all. The partnership continued until Jack moved on to raise five great kids, and Paul chose to enter the world of finance. This left Ken to continue the thriving enterprise until his untimely death in 2015.
Jerry, along with Bar Manager Extraordinaire John McKone, and Ken’s wife Sandy still come to work everyday to carry on the tradition and the fun that personifies The Shamrock.
